Lyric writing has been a crucial part of my practice. A critical turning point in my musical journey came when I went to a week-long musical theatre residency in Pembrokeshire, the one and only Share Music! This is where I met the fantastic composer and teacher Nigel Osbourne! His teaching introduced me to ways of adding melody and rhythm to words, or in other words, how to turn poetry into song. So, that week I wrote my first song. It was a song written for the musical theatre we were devising, inspired by the Conference of the Birds (a 4500 word Persian poem by Attar of Nishapur).
